Marion Shaner |

Marian Stitt Shaner served for 25 years on the Greater Alle-Kiski Board of Realtors. During that time she served on most of the standing committees and was responsible for the monthly fundraisers which supported Meals on Wheels. She worked on the sesquicentennial committee and later on the festival committee. She has been a long term member of LACA and has served on a multitude of committees and helped with countless fundraisers and events. Marian has always been more than willing to donate her time, money, and efforts to serving the Leechburg community.

Larry Rodack |

Larry Rodack founded the Leechburg Area Community Association. Mr. Rodack has served as LACA president, secretary, and treasurer over a 5-year period. He was founder of the Leechburg Hall of Fame Dinner and wrote, published, distributed, and paid for the LACA news. Back when fax machines were hot commodities he donated a fax machine to the Leechburg police department and prior to that donation allowed the police to use his fax machine at no charge. He furnished the Leechburg Fire Hall with donated furniture and has helped with parades for a number of years.

Since 1955, Adam has strived to make Leechburg a better place. He was on the original committees to design and build the Leechburg Pool, Leechburg Park, and Lower Kiski Ambulance Service. Most of Adam's efforts came in the form of remodeling many structures around town including the West Leechburg fireman*s recreation building, the Leechburg Museum, the Elk's building, and the Hebron Lutheran Church social hall. Adam is currently serving as vice chairman of the Kiski Valley Water Pollution Control Authority.

A Leechburg resident since 1939, Alice has reached out to our community in many ways. She was dedicated to serving the Catholic Church. She was involved in many divisions of the church including St. Anne*s Guild, Catholic Daughters, and the Diocesan committee. She also volunteered her time to the Leechburg high school Mother*s Club. In the community she volunteered for the Red Cross, was past president of the Leechburg Auxiliary, and was vice president of the Leechburg Museum and Historical Society.

LACA is proud to annouce the 2008 Leechburg Hall of Fame Inductees! Congratulations to: Beverly Helsel, James Leech (posthumulously), Donna and Tony Ropolo, and Paul Simon. The annual dinner is slated for Sunday, March 9, 2008 at the Gilpin Township Firehall. Cocktails and appetizers will start at 5pm, dinner starts at 6pm followed by the induction ceremony. Tickets are in sale NOW at DiCola Agency, First Commonwealth Bank (downtown), Graff Gourmet Foods, and Leechbrug Floral Co. Seating is limited so reserve your seat today!
The Leechburg Hall of Fame started in 2000. There are currently 46 members in the Hall of Fame including the 2008 inductees. All members have given unselfish and outstanding contribution to the Leechburg community. LACA holds an annual dinner to recognize and celebrate those who have been voted into the Hall of Fame by their fellow community members. This year's event will be held at the Gilpin Township fire hall on March 9, 2008. A display showing photographs of the Hall of Fame members rests at the Leechburg museum. Thanks Deb Vargo! Congratulations and thanks to Deb Vargo from First Commonwealth Bank in downtown Leechburg! Deb was the recipent of the bank's "Golden Tower Award" for communty service. She personally received $1,000 and was given the option to donate $1,000 to her favorite non profit. Deb choose to donate the money to LACA and we are so appreciative! Thanks Deb!

Drug Awareness Program Leechburg Elks Bring Drug Awareness Program to Leechburg Elementary School Major Anthony Shea Jr, USAF/Ret, Leechburg Elks Drug Awareness Chairman recently presented two Drug Awareness assemblies at Leechburg Elementary School for the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. Lieutenant Tom Dubovi of the PA State Police, District Magistrate Gary DeComo of Ford City, and Denise Marano from ARC Manor in Kittanning were featured as speakers. Approximately 200 students participated in the two assemblies. Each child received a red ribbon, a Drug Awareness coloring book, book mark, and pencil, and a candy treat.The children were given valuable information on the effects of drugs on their bodies and their futures and were given the opportunity to have their quest ions concerning drugs answered by those professionals who deal with the results of drug use on a daily basis. The students were also invited to participate in the Elks Drug Awareness Poster Contest. This years theme for the contest is “Get Smart - Don't Start"..

WBN Meetings The Amstrong-Kiski Area Chapter of the Women's Business Network meets the 2nd and 4th Monday's each month at 8:30 a.m. at Garda's Restaurant located on RR 66 in Ford City. The group is open to local area women business owners and those in sales in the Armstrong, Ford City and surrounding areas who would like to meet to network and share ideas to expand their business. Members are able to grow their circle of influence, improve their "60-second" commercial, and create lasting business and personal relationships within a supportive environment. Leechburg Elks Lodge 377 Recently held a Karaoke Contest to raise money for the PA Elks Home Service Nurse Program, which is dedicated to helping persons with developmental disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, Down syndrome and hearing and visual impairments, to name just a few. This Pennsylvania Elks Program is a TOTALLY FREE service that is available in any of the 67 counties comprising the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. All administrative expenses are provided for by a grant from the Elks National Foundation, therefore every dollar earned by the Elks lodges goes directly to help the children and adults in our area. The audience watched as many talented local singers vied for the top prize of $100. The winners, by vote of the au dience were; First Place, Marcie Covey, sponsored by Uncle Charlie’s Sausages; Second Place, Barb Shipman; and Third Place, Kim McHenry, sponsored by H & R Block. . The Lodge thanks our DJ, Stan Zydonik Jr., and Master of Ceremonies, Eric Swerczeski, who donated thier services, all of the singers who participated, the audience, and all of the generous businesses and individuals who contributed their time, talents, and donations to make this event possible
