Thanks Deb Vargo!Congratulations and thanks to Deb Vargo from First Commonwealth Bank in downtown Leechburg! Deb was the recipent of the bank's "Golden Tower Award" for communty service. She personally received $1,000 and was given the option to donate $1,000 to her favorite non profit. Deb choose to donate the money to LACA and we are so appreciative! Thanks Deb!
Drug Awareness Program Leechburg Elks Bring Drug Awareness Program to Leechburg Elementary School Major Anthony Shea Jr, USAF/Ret, Leechburg Elks Drug Awareness Chairman recently presented two Drug Awareness assemblies at Leechburg Elementary School for the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. Lieutenant Tom Dubovi of the PA State Police, District Magistrate Gary DeComo of Ford City, and Denise Marano from ARC Manor in Kittanning were featured as speakers. Approximately 200 students participated in the two assemblies. Each child received a red ribbon, a Drug Awareness coloring book, book mark, and pencil, and a candy treat.The children were given valuable information on the effects of drugs on their bodies and their futures and were given the opportunity to have their quest ions concerning drugs answered by those professionals who deal with the results of drug use on a daily basis. The students were also invited to participate in the Elks Drug Awareness Poster Contest. This years theme for the contest is “Get Smart - Don't Start"..
WBN MeetingsThe Amstrong-Kiski Area Chapter of the Women's Business Network meets the 2nd and 4th Monday's each month at 8:30 a.m. at Garda's Restaurant located on RR 66 in Ford City. The group is open to local area women business owners and those in sales in the Armstrong, Ford City and surrounding areas who would like to meet to network and share ideas to expand their business. Members are able to grow their circle of influence, improve their "60-second" commercial, and create lasting business and personal relationships within a supportive environment. Leechburg Elks Lodge 377Recently held a Karaoke Contest to raise money for the PA Elks Home Service Nurse Program, which is dedicated to helping persons with developmental disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, Down syndrome and hearing and visual impairments, to name just a few. This Pennsylvania Elks Program is a TOTALLY FREE service that is available in any of the 67 counties comprising the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. All administrative expenses are provided for by a grant from the Elks National Foundation, therefore every dollar earned by the Elks lodges goes directly to help the children and adults in our area. The audience watched as many talented local singers vied for the top prize of $100. The winners, by vote of the au dience were; First Place, Marcie Covey, sponsored by Uncle Charlie’s Sausages; Second Place, Barb Shipman; and Third Place, Kim McHenry, sponsored by H & R Block. . The Lodge thanks our DJ, Stan Zydonik Jr., and Master of Ceremonies, Eric Swerczeski, who donated thier services, all of the singers who participated, the audience, and all of the generous businesses and individuals who contributed their time, talents, and donations to make this event possible
Women's Business NetworkArmstrong-Kiski Chapter will be holding a Fall Networking Event on Thursday, September 25th from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Garda’s Restaurant (Rt 66 between Leechburg and Ford City), Ford City PA 16226. Cost is $10 per person and includes wine and hous’dvours. Speaker will be Alice Maxin with Panoramic Coaching. Come and meet the chapter members and experience the benefit of networking to grow your business. Concert in the Gazeo!LACA would like to thank Father Joe, The Kiski Valley Community Band, the 2008 Hall of Fame Inductees, and everyone in the community who came out to the memorial brick dedication and our first ever FREE concert in the park! The project was a huge success and will hopefully lead to continuous concerts and events being held at the park and gazebo!

Mural Complete!The newly renovated playground on Campbell Avenue has yet another new edition...a beautiful jungle-themed mural! LACA would like to thank Mrs. Prorok and the art club seniors on an excellent job. Many thanks to Quarato's for the donation of paint! Flamingos are Back!That's right the flamingos are back again this summer and have made their new home on the island by the bridge! You can purchase your flamingo for $25.00 at Leechburg Floral Co. All proceeds benefit the LACA garden fund.

Cookbook Supplement Extended!In hopes of creating a spectacular cookbook supplement, we have extended the deadline until next year for residents and business owners to submit recipes. The theme for the supplement is "Ethnic Foods" so please send us your ethnic specialties. This could range from any ethnicity such as Italian, Asian, Hungarian, ect. The best way to get us your recipes is via e-mail at LeechburgLACA@gmail.com or you could drop off entires at DiCola Agency, Leechburg Floral Company, or Sprankle's Neighborhood Market. You can also click on the "Submit" button just to the left of this info. We will collect recipes from now until June 2009. The supplements will fit into the 3-ring binder LACA cookbooks that are on sale now at various locations in downtown Leechburg for $15.00 each.
